Push yourself too hard and for too long and you’ll burn out.  We all have our limits, physically, mentally & emotionally.

When your brain never switches off, the pressure feels huge, the to do list never ending, your work life balance is completely askew, and you don’t sleep well, it’s practically impossible to step back and see the wood from the trees, despite the well intentioned advice of friends and family. Been there. It was awful.

Your brain is programmed for fight or flight responses to stress. Adrenaline runs around your body, which will keep you going for so long, but without the “happy” counter-balance of serotonin and dopamine to keep things evened out, you’ll slowly grind to a bit of halt, start making poor decisions, if you are even able to make a decision at all. Everything feels an uphill struggle. Exhaustion takes over.

beyond burn out

I learned a lot from meeting burn out. Coaching made a world of difference to helping me start to see straight again, working out what was really important, and helping me recognise what had got me there, so I don’t make the mistakes again.  Now I want to pay that forward by helping others – hence What Next? Coaching.  There is always a next, it might just take some time and effort to work towards it.
